Technical Service Questionnaire

Selecting the right gasket material is critical to the effective operation of a reliable joint. It is an important step in the design of a process system as selecting the correct gasket from the beginning can result in significant savings by avoiding costly shutdowns, by preventing leaking flanges, and ultimately by extending the life of the gasket. More seriously, leaking flanges, selecting the wrong gasket, or improperly installing a gasket can pose serious safety risks. And although the choices seem wide, specific characteristics of each material type move the selection within finer limits.

With the different types of gasket materials available as well as even more variations within the gasket material categories, the selection of a gasket may seem complex. When deciding on a gasket for a given application, selection of the correct gasket material involves a logical series of consideration. Very basic reasons often lead to leakage in flange assemblies, and in most cases it is not just the gasket but also the human element.

KLINGER Thermoseal offers material selection and application assistance to ensure the correct material is used the first time. If you would like us to advise you on your application, please provide the details requested below, and a technical expert will review the data and respond to you.

The ability of a gasket material to make and maintain a seal depends not only on the quality of the gasket material, but also on medium being sealed, the flange design, the amount of pressure applied to the gasket by the bolts and how the gasket is assembled into the flanges and tightened.
